St. Landry Parish-based Hazelwood Energy Hub will help energy producers and the 17 Gulf Coast refineries get their perfect barrel. The project will provide safe, secure storage for multiple types of crude oil and other hydrocarbon liquids in underground salt dome caverns, with supplemental surface tanks to optimize the facility. Each cavern will store a specific crude type using proven technology that is the industry’s preferred storage technique. Hazelwood will custom blend multiple types of crude in real-time for each customer, allowing for maximum efficiency, optionality and the ability to quickly respond to changing markets to optimize profits. The project will ultimately be the world’s largest blending operation. The company’s website is www.hazelwoodenergyhub.com.
Hazelwood Energy Hub is a master planned regional energy hub located in Louisiana’s Energy Coast. Overlaying a 340-acre proven salt dome, HEH is developing four storage caverns for crude oil and other hydrocarbon liquids using the most up-to-date, safe and environmentally sensitive techniques.
Hazelwood Energy Hub is connected to refiners, producers and processors throughout the Energy Coast and North America by barge, rail, and 19 pipelines either on-site or nearby. HEH has electrical and transmission infrastructure, telecommunications access, abundant fresh water and pipeline access to the Mississippi River for export opportunities.
Hazelwood Energy Hub is located on the Port Barre Salt Dome, which has a record of safe and secure storage activities beginning in 1955 and is now home to a 29 bcf natural gas storage facility that is owned and operated by one of North America’s leading midstream companies. Many members of the development team from that project are now leading Hazelwood Energy Hub. With proven, safe salt caverns and experienced leadership, HEH is an ideal location for energy development.
